2016 Versus Now: Kanye West

Kanye West’s 2016 was quite memorable for good and bad reasons. Despite all the personal troubles and questionable political stances, the focus was still on his album, The Life of Pablo, and the Saint Pablo Tour. Def Jam is claiming his latest album is the first streaming-only LP to be certified platinum. Def Jam said Tuesday that TLOP has been streamed three billion times worldwide since it was released in February 2016.

The third and final single “Fade” gained significant attention for its music video featuing Teyana Taylor dancing seductively in a gym. The video premiered at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and later won the Best Choreography Award at the 2017 VMAs.

After being hospitalized for a mental breakdown, Kanye was forced to cancel his Saint Pablo Tour at the end of last year. West is reportedly working on a new album. In February, Pusha T confirmed in a radio interview with 93.9’s The Fam in the Morning Show that Kanye was back in the studio. A couple months ago, he was also seen at an undisclosed L.A. studio with Kid Cudi and Migos.
