A TRUE Freestyle 

Do female artists have to follow the same lyrical criteria in a freestyle? When you hear female freestyle what’s the first thing you listen up for. Do you listen for metaphors? Do you listen for sexual innuendos? Do you listen for delivery? Is it the same thing that we expect from a male lyrically?

I think the last female MC that I can remember seeing actually going off the top of the head was either Queen Latifah, or Lauryn Hill. So has anybody ever officially broken down how you can tell if somebody is going off the top of the head? Let’s do a little checklist to see what the signs are. 

1. In a true freestyle a lot of the times the rappers eyes aren’t focused. They’re in more feels like they’re searching for their next words whether looking away looking down or just staring into space.

2. A true freestyle goes with the beat perfectly because it is made in the head to that particular beat.

3. A true freestyle will no doubt come with a few errors or slip-ups. Unless you are the goat of the freestyle game you will definitely slip up once or use the same word twice maybe in a different way.

4. A true freestyle will include items and relevant things to the current situation. This means a person’s clothing might get mentioned maybe in car riding by, something that just was spoken about, or whatever the current situation cost for.

5.  Sometimes the rapper may start off with something written and then go into freestyle mode after a bar or two. This is effective for starting strong and then transtioning into your freestyle mode.

6. No one around is lip singing all of the lyrics that the rapper is saying. Maybe a word or two that may be anticipated, but not whole bars.
