Amber Rose says that instead of being upset, that she is supportive of Lola Monroe signing to Taylor Gang.
“I am the queen. She is the first lady. Lola is the sh*t. You guys really got to get into her. She’s super talented, she’s my sister, she’s super duper dope and she is the first lady of Taylor Gang…period. She’s going to come in, she’s killin’ the game and she’s working really hard. Me and Lola both have very, very similar lives. We were both strippers at 15-years-old. We both been through a really hard struggle. We’ve both been scrutinized for a lot of different things.” (XXL Mag)
In late October, Monroe broke the news of her Taylor Gang signing.
She explained why she decided to sign with the “Black and Yellow” rapper. “Wiz is like a positive free individual that’s about his business and that matches everything I’ve created on my side,” she said. “When he reached out, he was like, ‘I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang.’ And I agreed, so it’s only right. Plus, out of all the situations that came to me, my business instincts and just the comfort level, I felt it was just the right move with him. He’s a stand-up dude and it just felt right.” LoLa, who was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at this year’s BET Awards, is prepping her debut album and will drop a new single in November. “It’s gon’ be crazy.” (Rap-Up)
In early 2010, Monroe said she had retired from exotic photo shoots to pursue a music career.
“I’m not doing that anymore,” she revealed in an interview. “I’m not doing videos, unless it’s a cameo. No magazine shoots, unless it’s promoting my music. It helps, kind of, but it also became an obstacle. It helped me brand my name and get my name out there, but at the same time, with the visuals, the sexy pictures, me being known as a model made it hard for people to really take me in as an artist. It’s like a gift and a curse.” (The Washington Post)
Recently she has been compared to superstar Nicki Minaj
“I don’t do the Barbie thing — that’s her thing,” LoLa said in an interview. “I really don’t agree with it, that’s basic. It doesn’t make sense to me because first off, you’re basically saying I’m jacking somebody who has never been known to have their styleall throughout their career. She’s never been set to have her own style. It’s always been set to say she’s jacking Lil’ Kimto Foxy [Brown] and now Lil Wayne. So how can I be jacking somebody or using somebody’s style if they never been known to have their own style. That part never made sense. That’s one.” (All Hip Hop)
