An Update on the Murder of Chinx

In 2015, New York City rapper Chinx (formerly Chinx Drugz) was murdered. The Queens native, born Lionel Pickens, had garnered a local following and was on the brink of larger success when he was shot and killed in a drive-by. In April 2015, after performing alongside collaborator French Montana, whom he met through Harlem legend Max B, at the Sound Garden Hall in Philadelphia, Homere allegedly stalked Chinx after the rapper told the crowd not to trust or work with Homere because he was a snitch. Detectives knocked on Janelli Caceres’s (widow) door at 9 a.m. the following morning to personally alert her of the arrests.

Police have arrested 32-year-old Quincy Homere while he was at a stop light minutes before apprehending the second suspect, 26-year-old Jamar Hill. According to a report by Fox 5 News NY, Chinx and Homere developed a beef in 2009 over the use of a gang-controlled phone while they were locked up together at Riker’s Island. Homere is also smally-known rapper Qwality, and has released a song titled ‘IDK Nothing’ where he references the same make and model of gun that is believed to have been used to kill Chinx.

The interesting theme permeating throughout this whole thing is the controversial idea behind snitching. The alleged killer hunts down the protagonist because of him being labelled a snitch, i.e. cooperating with police, effectively stunting his aspirations towards a rap career. The funny thing is that Chinx most likely need a snitch in order to get his murder solved and ‘justice’ be served.

Both Homere and Hill have pleaded not guilty.
