Curren$y Signs Mikey Rocks To Jet Life Recordings

It’d be difficult to dispute the fact Curren$y is one of the hardest working MCs in the game—this year alone he’s released multiple projects including Covert Coup, Weekend at Burnie’s and the recent DJ Drama-hosted mixtape Verde Terrace—but in addition to his own work, the New Orleans native is steadily building his label Jet Life Recordings. Spitta’s latest signee to the imprint is The Cool Kids’ Mikey Rocks.

On Sunday night (October 23), via Twitter, Curren$y announced that Sir Michael Rocks has officially inked a deal with Jet Life Records. “Happy to have added one of my good friends to the J.L.R. family…. After I roll this doob I’ll let yall kno all about it..” @Curren$y Spitta wrote. “Roll one for @SirMichaelRocks for he is indeed Jet Life Official…Pop a bottle for dat man.” Naturally, the announcement was tagged with a photo of Curren$y poppin’ a bottle of champagne in honor of his new signee.

Mikey Rocks (along with producer Chuck Inglish) is one half of rap duo, The Cool Kids, who released their debut album When Fish Ride Biycles in July. The Illinois native followed that release with his own mixtape Premier Politics, which dropped during the first week of October.

After inking his current deal with Asylum/Warner Bros. Records in February, Curren$y has been extremely vocal about his goals for the Jet Life brand.“It was definitely, shall we say, educational to see certain artists going out building their empires, building their own movements,” he told the Village Voice in July. “Pharrell with Star Trak, Cam’ron with Dipset. Fans would hear a be and be like ‘That sounds like a Neptunes beat,’ or ‘That sounds like a Dipset joint.’ That’s how I engineered Jet Life to be. I want it to be branded in a way, so the people know what it is.”

Other artists currently signed to Jet Life Records include Young Roddy, Street Wiz, Ciso and Trademark Da Skydiver.
