Director John Singleton Steps Up To Direct Tupac Shakur Biopic

#News – A Tupac Shakur biopic is in the works – and it’s coming soon.

The so-far untitled movie about the rap legend and actor Tupac Shakur is set to start filming in June, and the production company has secured the rights to the musician’s catalog, Collider confirmed with the project’s producer Randal Emmett.

John Singleton, who directed Shakur and Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice (1993), will be steering the film. Also on board with the project to ensure the rapper’s story is told respectfully and honestly? Shakur’s mother, Afeni, who will be executive-produce, according to the site.

“The script is great, and we’re ready to make the movie,” Emmett said. “We’re just prepping the logistics.”

The film has been a long time coming, and Emmett said they’re working hard to preserve Shakur’s legacy. The biopic will focus on the rapper’s rise to fame and career, he said.

“We want to be real and raw, about the things and the gangster life that he was involved in, growing up in the way that he grew up, but we also want to honor the talent that he had,” Emmett told the site.

Shakur – who died in 1996 after a shooting in Las Vegas – is one of the top-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million record. He is known widely as the most influential rapper of all time.
