Dominican Hybrid Sound

With all the variety and changing of sounds in Hiphop music, and it’s related spinoffs, the lines that define the genre are getting a bit blurry. Before you could not present a track as Hiphop if it strayed into other genres such as House or even RnB. Today is different in that what we call Hiphop contains elements of almost every genre imaginable without getting called out as it would in the past. In the Dominican republic Dembow artists are often double timing as rappers, and in the case of Dioli’s ” Penelope/Ella Mi Dice”, the genres come together on the track in harmony. This single has been a constant jam day and night in the DR ,so much in fact, you can’t go a day without hearing it somewhere! Usually Dembow and Hiphop are kept separate. The fast pace and repetitive nature of the former can be somewhat incompatible with the job a rapper needs to do, with getting the point across a certain way. Diloi reconciles these differences beautifully in one of the hottest street jams rocking in the Dominican Republic!
