#FreestyleFeature: Mar-Q (Interview)

As a part of our new #FreestyleFeature interview series, we at TRUE Magazine will be interviewing up and coming artists to give them a chance to spotlight who they are, where they come from, and what drives them to make the great music that they make. Check out NYC artist, Mar-Q has he discusses where his inspiration for making dope music comes from, and what he dreams of doing with his music career.

1) What’s your number one inspiration for being an artist?

I love to create things that get the reaction and emotional response I was aiming for, whether its laughter, shock or an ugly face created from a potent punch line. I always enjoyed getting intricate with lyrics and now I enjoy the creating visual concepts that completely paint the picture. I also want to keep that dying element of rap alive, that feeling that makes people say “YO HES NICE” while maintaining the credibility of a good song writer.

2) When did you decide that music was going to be a passion of yours that you wanted to pursue?

Back in college, like I said before I was in love with the reactions. I would just constantly think of punch lines and concepts completely ignoring my school work. I put a heavy emphasis on creativity and lyricism.
3) What do you want your fans to know?
More visuals and music are on the way, I completely fund and create everything myself so I can’t move as fast as I would like but its coming. There will be videos on the same level as Young Chick Old Chick and even a skit or 2.
4) When can your fans expect to hear some new music from you?
By the 4th quarter this year, I plan to do ALOT from that point on.
5) Where can your fans follow you on social media?
Mar-q.com has all my links as well as a online store where you can buy music and products to support me. My other links are twitter: @mar_qmusic IG: @mar_qmusic youtube: marqjmdontcare facebook: marqjmdontcare
