Hip Hop had an impact at the Million Man March chanting Kendrick Lamars Lyrics

Hip Hop showed up but the main stream media did not. Its cool tho We got this. D.C.’s national mall was flooded on sat with the 20th anniverary of the Million Man March. This year organizers called for participation from other marginalized groups like the Native American and Hispanic populations, as well. All in unity the crowds chanted the powerful chorus of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.”

Starting in 95 the movement has became the bastion of civil rights activism. It was organized by Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, who addressed the crowd of tens of thousands of supporters, reminding them of importance of our next generation.

“We who are getting older… what good are we if we don’t prepare young people to carry that torch of liberation to the next step?” he said. “What good are we if we think we can last forever and not prepare others to walk in our footsteps?”

Even though main stream media wasnt their the march and the movement garnered enormous support on social media through the hashtags #millionmanmarch and #justiceorelse. Thousands have posted to Instagram and Twitter with photos, videos and thoughts on the event.

Among the crowd were also celebrity supporters like J. Cole, Common, Diddy, Jay Electronica and Dave Chapelle.
