Interview with DL: Keeping it Real and Hustling
New artists emerge everyday with a dream of becoming big. Among them, very few have important things to say and focus on becoming big instead of the story they want to tell. DL has complete faith that his individuality will put him where he needs to be. With a strong mentality to grind and hustle, DL captivates many of his fans with his unique swagger and fresh sound.
TRUE: Hello DL! Before we get into it, how are you feeling today? How is life treating you?
DL: I’m good and life is great. Thanks for asking.
T: How long have you been making music and who are some of the artists that inspired you to want to make music growing up?
DL: I’ve been making music since I was a shorty. I’ve been and still am inspired by too many to name. I’m a big fan of good music.
T: What does it take to build a buzz to get noticed in today’s music industry being a rapper?
DL: Money and/or ratchetness. Unfortunate, but true.
T: What are the advantages you’ve been able to utilize as an independent rapper?
DL: Maintaining my integrity and creativity. It’s allowed me to stay true to myself.
T: You just released your single “Copy” with great success when looking at the numbers, what is it about?
DL: It’s about falling down, getting back up but also understanding where you went wrong so you don’t make the same mistakes again. It also indicates I’m pretty much the same person, but will move differently.
T: How much of your real life comes out in your overall music?
DL: Pretty much all of it. My life is my motivation and inspiration to create music. I would say my music is a direct reflection of who I am as a person.
T: What else are you currently working on as we speak?
DL: Right now, we are working on the sequel to “King Of Paper Chasin”, it’s long overdue. Politics of the business has caused it to take longer than it should have but I feel the fans will be pleased with what we have in store. It will be well worth the wait.
T: What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
DL: I would have to say almost losing everything and having the faith, confidence and resilience in myself to not give up and figure a way to be bigger and better than before.
T: Let’s now focus on your overall swagger. As far as style, delivery and appearance what makes you different from the competition?
DL: I’m DL and they are not. There’s only one me. I love being me, that’s the hook.
T: What is your opinion about the music industry? What would you chance if you could?
DL: It’s a hustle. You grind, you eat. It’s that simple. Like most things in life. You get out what you put in. In regard to change…nothing. Everyone’s taste is different and there is enough variety to appeal to the masses.
T: What is your formula for success?
DL: Refuse to take no for an answer. Impose my will.
T: What are your personal and professional goals you have set for you?
DL: To make $10 Million in 10 months at the same time document it for TV and call it “10 Months to 10 Million”.
T: Finally, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
DL: I just want to show love and respect to everyone that rocks with me and believes in what I do. Y’all have no clue how much it means to me and how it keeps me going through the good and shaky times. Also, I want to thank the ones who bet against me. That’s a different type of motivation that I thrive off of.
T: Where can people find you online?
