Usually when performance times get pushed earlier it doesn’t mean good things, but when it came to Jay Electronica’s set at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Fest this afternoon — which he asked to switch from last to second-to-last “as a sign of respect” to co-headliner Raekwon — it’s the best thing that could’ve happened to fans of the Roc Nation rapper: it allowed his set to be as guest-laden as possible, with appearances from Mac Miller, J. Cole and, yes, Roc boss Jay Z himself.
Jay Z happened to be passing through town on his and Beyoncé’s summer On the Run tour; they hit New Jersey’s MetLife stadium last night and will make a repeat performance there tonight. Cole is slated to play New York on Tuesday, while Miller flew in just off shooting a forthcoming video for self-produced cut “Diablo.”
The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. See photos and video of the performances below, including performances from Jay and Jay of “Shiny Suit Theory,” “Young, Gifted & Black,” and “We Made It”–the Jay Z freestyle on which Jay Electronica is featured–below:
