K Camp – Comfortable

For K Camp, one of hip-hop’s hottest new rappers, his career is going only one way: up. The Atlanta native is preparing his debut album, Only Way Is Up, due Sept. 4 on Interscope Records. The full-length follows his 2014 EP, In Due Time, which spun off the hit track “Cut Her Off,” featuring 2 Chainz, which rose to No. 5 on Hot Rap Songs. The rapper taps some noteworthy names for appearances on Only, including Snoop Dogg, Jeremih and T.I.

T.I.’s involvement is big, as both K Camp and the “King of the South” hail from Atlanta. “He led the way as far as Atlanta for so many years,” the rapper told Billboard in a video interview. “For me to come out with my debut album and being from the north side of Atlanta, it’s the right stamp.”

In the past year, K Camp’s breakout season has scored the young rapper some prominent honors. Five of his tracks topped the real-time Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists survey in 2014, the most among all artists, and in June 2015, he was one of ten rappers inducted into the 2015 installment of to XXL’s Freshman Class. Among his classmates: Fetty Wap, Tink and Vince Staples.

A few weeks before Only’s release, the set’s single “Comfortable” continues to climb the Billboard charts. The rapper says even when creating the track, it was an easy choice for a single. “The vibe was good, we was smoking good. We knew that was the one that was going to be the go-to.”

So far, his “Comfortable” intuition has paid off. The summer jam climbs to No. 8 on Rap Airplay and No. 26 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs on the charts dated Aug. 22, both new peaks for the track.
