Kanye West Tops Billboard, Lands Eighth No. 1 Album With ‘Ye’

Despite the controversy and media circus created by his support of Donald Trump and comments on slavery, Kanye West’s ye takes top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. Released at the start of June, ye moved 208,000 equivalent album units (85,000 in traditional album sales) opening week according to Nielsen Music.

The album becomes Kanye’s eighth No. 1 album, tying Eminem for the second-most No. 1 albums among hip-hop acts. JAY-Z leads both artists with 14 albums topping the charts. Overall, The Beatles lead the pack with 19 No. 1 albums.
