Keep Your Friends Close, But Keep BAD Friends Closer: Melchizedek x Brodie B BAD Friends Album Review
Quick question: “If you ain’t talking about profits, then what is the purpose?”(Eat). I’m securing the bag, so don’t fuck with me. That is my mood all 2k19 and clearly the mood for the members of SOURLife. With a swangin’ and shoulder pooping vibe from Melchizedek and Brodie B, they crafted BAD Friends, with 9 bangers showing how much they work and show out for their fans. This piece of work goes from having tracks that you ride around down the street with the windows down on a summer day to tracks that you blast before hitting the club.
With a nice old school and soulful sound, Devine, is a cute love song anthem that is sweet and simple, but then it gets hood real quick. With the beat dropping, a pulsing gritty base sound, this dope switch up is brought my thier track Martin. A common style throughout is them slowing and winding down the track, to pick it up back again. They also have a sense of humor in Eat, utilizing a recording from the film Talladega Nights starring Will Farrell.
The main message that they want to give us is clear. SourLife is doing what is needed to be done to Survive Our Urban Reality. They can play hard as much as they work and it clearly shows throughout this piece of work. With a total of 9 tracks, with no features, SourLife is on something innovative yet still relate-able.
