LAPD Apologizes To Notorious B.I.G’s Family For Releasing Autopsy Report

The newly released autopsy report of the Notorious B.I.G. rehashed old wounds leftover by his untimely death, and now the LAPD is apologizing.

Being that the paperwork was made public without the family’s consent, the department is seeking to make amends.

In a statement released Saturday (Dec. 8), the department explained that prematurely unveiling the details 15 year’s after Biggie’s death was a mistake. “Our detectives personally spoke with the Wallace family [Friday, Dec. 7] night, and apologized for not notifying them prior to the release” said LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division Capt. Billy Hayes.”Obviously this has been a challenging case for us to solve. We hope that witnesses or other people with information will come forward and give us the clues we need to solve this case.”

According to Craig Harvey, chief coroner investigator for Los Angeles County, a long-standing security hold placed on the 23-page document was lifted last week. The paperwork concludes that the Brooklyn MC died from a single gunshot wound, despite being struck more than once.

Biggie was shot leaving a Vibe magazine party in Los Angeles back in 1997. His murder came not long after the death of rival, Tupac Shakur, who was shot in Las Vegas following a boxing match.

Both cases remain unsolved.
