WTF Studios, Inc. announced today the signing of Grand Hustle’s Houston representer, Trae Tha Truth, and his cartoonist partner, Jay Sugarman, to produce ten exclusive episodes of their original animated series, ‘Trae.’ The deal represents WTF’s first acquisition of an animated series. ‘Trae’ will follow the hilarious life misadventures of its namesake, Trae Tha Truth, as he traverses the country with his trusty band of miscreants, Grey-D, JayTon , Boss, Purpa and Birdfeed, on the road to stardom. Much like its wildly popular predecessor, ‘The Adventures’ of Trae Tha Truth’, which launched in 2008, surprise celebrity guests are also likely. Past cameos have included MTV’s Sway Calloway, Power 105.1’s Angela Yee and New Orleans rap legend, Mystikal. Trae is best known for his many rap music releases, spanning back to 1999. In 2012 Trae announced a partnership with T.I.’s Grand Hustle label under which he released two solo projects, including the well-received ‘I Am King’ mix tape last month.‘Trae’ is expected to launch with a Christmas special though it is likely to bear no resemblance to any animated Christmas special that has gone before.
“We are very excited to have Trae Tha Truth on WTF?! It’s funny, real, edgy and it reeks of ‘I don’t give a F’, and neither do we. I think Trae Tha Truth’s audience will follow it to WhatTheFunny and expand from there,” said Marlon Wayans, WTF Studios co-founder.
“What The Funny prides itself in featuring top comedic talent that appeals to our young urban audience on all screens everywhere,” agrees WTF Studios CEO and co-founder, Randy Adams. “Trae Tha Truth’s hilarious animated videos are a very welcome addition to our growing library of world class entertainment and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with him.”
Omar Epps, who brought Trae’s original animated series to Marlon’s attention and is also executive producing the series, added, “Trae Tha Truth’s animated series has the brand of humor which is a perfect fit for Marlon Wayans’ WhatTheFunny digital network. With Trae’s core demographic being die hard fans, I’m excited for him to expand his audience through WhatTheFunny’s expansive platform.”
