Meek Mill’s Bail Release Motion Backed by Philadelphia District Attorney

Meek Mill’s ongoing court saga took a turn for the better on Thursday (April 5) as a Philadelphia district attorney backed the rapper’s request to be released on bail and submitted a motion to the Supreme Court, a representative for the artist confirmed to Billboard.

Philadelphia district attorney Larry Krasner filed a motion to the Supreme Court, in which he states he “does not oppose defendant’s application to the extent he requests release on bail pending the current proceedings, but opposes all other requested relief at this time.”

Earlier this week, Judge Genece Brinkley, who sentenced the rapper to two to four years in prison last November, denied Mill’s request to be released on bail. However, this new development means that the decision is now in the hands of the Supreme Court instead of Judge Brinkley.

opposing Meek Mill’s release on bail at the Pennsylvania Supreme Court level while the current legal proceedings continue, even in light of Judge Brinkley’s vindictive and erroneous decision,” Mill’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said in a statement.

Mill and his legal team have made several attempts for an early release. In March, Mill’s team filed a motion to remove Judge Brinkley from the case altogether, citing bias and “an unusual interest” in the rappers personal and professional life.

The “Issues” rapper has received a wave of support from his peers and public figures, including the governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf.

“I support D.A. Larry Krasner’s position in the case of Robert Williams (Meek Mill),” he wrote on Twitter. “Our criminal justice system is in need of repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness.”
