A few weeks ago, Meek Mill aired Drake out for using ghostwriters and not being true to his craft. Drake, who would normally ignore the shots people take at him, eviscerated Meek with two diss records and then crushed him into oblivion at OVO Fest.
Drake won, but once you get a reputation for picking up your phone, all it does is ring. The first ones through the breach are Migos. They’re doing the press rounds for their debut album Yung Rich Nation (the two that aren’t locked up right now, #FreeOffset), and, in a Billboard interview with John Kennedy, said that Drake bit their signature “Migos Flow.”
TAKEOFF: Drizzy? Drizzy bit the flow.
QUAVO: C’mon, Drizzy know he bit the flow! Drizzy got on ‘Versace,’ right? Then when I came on there I did ‘Versace/ Versace/ Medusa head on me like I’m illuminati.’ My boy Drizzy Drake got them bars from me. We together though. We ain’t trippin’ on boss.
They’re 1000% right. Drake’s been known to – like Kanye West – stroll through the kitchen and peak over shoulders to see what the younger folk are cheffing up. Drake caught a whiff of something he liked on Versace, and decided he’d use the same recipe for his Nothing Was The Same cut, The Language.
Of course, nothing in the world is ever new, and Migos didn’t come up with the rapid-fire triplets thing themselves, but the layperson doesn’t know that style by any other name and chances are Drake doesn’t either. This was less of a jab than it was a straight. Anyways, things seem to be all clear between Drake and Migos, but now that Drake’s put himself out there with all of this Meek nonsense, it’s pretty obvious that he’s got a target on his back. And people who aren’t pushovers are going to start taking aim at it.
