Unsurprisingly, Compton’s movie anthem “Straight Outta Compton” broke the charts this weekend making over 56 million in it’s opening weekend.
Documenting the lives of the notorious rap group NWA, “Straight Outta Compton” straight delivered what it set out to do-and that is be the hottest movie of the summer.
Starring an all black cast, the box office hitter had the streets of LA talking. With all the negativity happening in society with black youth getting killed, it’s enlightening and almost refreshing to see young black men on the big screen telling not only a story-but history!
According to an article by CNN, “Compton” stars a predominately African-American cast and much of the film’s opening success came from minority audiences.”
The article goes on to say,”Nearly half, 46%, of the film’s audience this weekend were African-American and only 23% were white, according to studio data.”
This movie will go down in history as a classic next to movies such “Friday” and “Boys In Da Hood” (both starring Ice Cube).
“Straight Outta Compton” isn’t just a movie, but a holiday for us Californians shedding light on some of the most notorious times in LA history. The excitement even started a frenzy on social media with fans posting pictures and memes reading “Straight Outta ‘Somewhere’.”
