With beef being the number 1 career jump start, you would think that apologies are the career killer. Many rappers have been in situations where they have no choice but to take the high route and say they are sorry for what they have done or said. TRUE gives us you the top 10 apologies in the history of hip hop. In no particular order

10. Souljaboy apologizes to the troops for his comments made against the US Army
“F–k the FBI and the army troops… fighting for what? Be your own man.” Is what Souljaboy said himself not too long ago. Being that we as a nation are in the times of war, it was a really sensitive subject to comment on. Whether or not he meant it the way that people took it is irrelevant.

9. Rick Ross apologizing about rape lyrics
Often people misinterpret rappers lyrics for derogatory statements or hate comments. Without looking at the specific situation that they may have been referencing during the lyric, people round it off to hear what they want. The line he rapped was “Put molly all in her champagne/ She ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain’t even know it.” When taken out of context, any lyric may be subject to offending someone. This incident would shortly cost him an endorsement deal with Reebok and the respect of a lot of female fans

8. Biggie Smalls apologizing to Patti Labelle and Kandi of Xscape for “Dreams” lyrics
In Biggies famous track explaining what he would do to a list of females in the R&B game, he mentioned a few names that ended up catching up with him. After the line “I’d probably go to jail for fucking Patti LaBelle” BIG received an angry phone call from the singer where he apologized to the legend. Kandi later came forward to say that she regrets not accepting BIG’s apology to Xscape years later on the exact same night that he was killed at the Soul Train Awards after party in LA.

6. Jay-Z’s mom makes him apologize to Nas for the diss track “Super Ugly”
In the midst of the infamous Nas and Jay-z beef, Hov dropped the track “Super Ugly” aimed at exposing the things that he did with Nas’ baby mother Carmen. Shortly after the track premiered on New York’s Hot 97, Jay’s mom called him up letting him know that he went too far. The next day, Jay showed up at the station apologizing for not considering anyone’s feelings but his own during the time of heated battle.

5. T-Pain apologizing to Jay-Z
At the height of Jay-Z’s track “Death of Autotune” T-Pain joined Jay on stage during his performance of the track at New York’s biggest concert Summer Jam. A few months later, Pain went on stage saying that “Jay-Z is 59 years old. I don’t think he has the right to say what’s good and what’s not. I think if anything is dead, it should be him.” Later that month, Pain released a track called “More Careful” in which he apologized for the shot at Jay.

4. Ice-T apologizes to Souljaboy
After telling Souljaboy to “Eat a d*ck” in a video that Ice posted, he later came back to apologize, sort of. This is an age old case of the old school rapper being upset with the direction of music and what sells nowadays. Ice-T insists that Souljaboy single handedly killed rap music and that hip hop won’t last with songs like “Superman” running the charts

3. Lil Mama apologizig for crashing the stage on Alicia Keys and Jay-Z at MTV VMA awards in 2009
Every artist knows that when you feel that spirit of the music, you make a move. Unfortunately for Lil Mama, that mostly applies when you are in the studio and not at a major event like the MTV VMA Awards. In 2009, she felt the need to crash Hov and Alicia’s performance by jumping on stage for the rest of their “Empire State of Mind” performance. When Jay gestured for her to leave the stage, she ignored his request and took her pose in a b-boy stance as the song came to an end. The next day, she issued a statement to MTV saying that the songs energy got the best of her and that she meant no disrespect to Jay or Alicia.

2. Lil Wayne apologizes to Jay-Z for saying that he is better than him
In 2007, after Jay-Z had returned to hip hop, Lil Wayne was quoted in an issue of Complex magazine saying that “It’s not your house anymore, and I’m better than you” Those are big words for someone who didn’t really become a pop icon until the next year. In the February issue of XXL, he retracted that statement by saying ““I wanna apologize to Jay and his family and friends, because I was asked that question and they put it in there like I was just feeling like, ‘Oh, you know what, nigga? I’m better than Jay!’ They came at me like, ‘So you say you’re the best. Can you say that you’re better than everybody? Would you say you’re better than Jay?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, nigga, I’m better than everybody!’ But I’d like to throw that apology out there ’cause of whatever trouble I caused, I ain’t want that to happen.” Seems as though Jay-Z is involved in a lot of apology cases in hip hop.

1.Kanye West apologizing to Taylor Swift for stealing her shine at the 2009 MTV VMA Awards.
For the ultimate apology, we look to the man who lashes out at many media outlets for the #1 apology in the history of hip hop. As some of you know, in 2009 as Taylor Swift took the stage and began her thank you speech for winning the award for best female video, Kanye stormed the stage and insisted to America that Beyonce had the best video of all time. After being escorted out of the venue, Ye went to his blog to issue a formal apology. Knowing that the Henny got the best of him, Kanye said that he talked to Taylor’s mother shortly after in which she told him that Taylor is “very talented” This moment would go down in not only Kanye West history, but hip hop history forever.
