Thanks to legendary emcee Nas, the sentiment regarding Hip Hop over the last few years has been that Hip Hop is dead. Well, we don’t agree that it is dead…sick and possibly on a respirator yes but dead no.
New York City has Hip Hop artist and producer Audible Doctor doing his part to help revive not just the music but also the culture. The musical snacks that he has been delivering over the last few years are enough to bring even the most illest of genera back to life!

TRUE: You have been a media darling for quite some time on the East Coast but now people are quickly finding out about you all across the country. How many years of work have gone in to your seemingly overnight success and was there any one moment in which you knew that things were changing with your career?
Audible Doctor: I’ve been consistently working hard for years. I really started taking music seriously after moving to New York in 2004 and it’s been very slow consistent progress since then. I feel I’ve gained the most traction and had some of my biggest opportunities and successes in the last year or two, but I can’t say there’s any particular point that I felt my career has dramatically changed. It’s just a slow consistent progression.
TRUE: You are working as both an artist and a producer at the same time. Are there ever moments when you wish you were only doing one thing or the other or do you feel that you feed off the creativity of both forms of expression equally?
Audible Doctor: I love to do both but it can sometimes become difficult to balance the two. There are times it can be hard to snap yourself out of one mindset and jump into the next. For example, sometimes when I make a beat it’s really hard to start writing directly afterwards because I’ll still be listening to the beat and picking apart things that could be improved upon or touched up instead of focusing on what I’m supposed to be writing. I’m still learning how to flip that switch off mentally.
TRUE: The Brown Bag AllStars are one of the most talented groups rising through the ranks of the game. If you had not been a part of the group, do you think you would still be pursuing music on your own today? What is your favorite part of being in such a diversified group?
Audible Doctor: I would absolutely still be pursuing music, but I don’t think I would be anywhere near where I am artistically at the moment. Being in a group of that many talented people forced me to step my game up both lyrically and production wise. That friendly competition among us has caused us all to grown individually as artists and I don’t think any one of us would be where we are now if we hadn’t come together like we did.
TRUE: Is there anything that you haven’t tried musically yet that you would like to try?
Audible Doctor: I’ve said this for years and I’ll continue to say it…someday I’m going to sing soul music. Straight up 70’s influenced soul music…just gotta make my mark on hip hop first.
TRUE: Just out of curiosity, when you have a moment to yourself…and no one is looking or listening…what is the one guilty pleasure song in your ipod that you throw on and wild out to?
Audible Doctor: Nothing really at the moment, but a recent guilty pleasure song of mine is Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse“…that sh*t’s hard!
TRUE: Please tell the people what you are working on now and where they can find you!
Audible Doctor: I have a new EP called “Can’t Keep The People Waiting” dropping very soon, and you can always find me on anything @audibledoctor or /audibledoctor, and you can check out audibledoctor.com for all the latest updates!
TRUE wants to thank Audible Doctor again for taking out time for us. Be sure to check him out in some speakers near you really soon!
