TRUE Magazine I GOT NEXT: Its Just Business Mannnn…. Lil Ray breaks down being a rapper and a BOSS!

As an entrepreneur and business owner, what are some of your biggest weaknesses?

My biggest weakness is letting other people handle things for me. I tend to want to be hands on with EVERYTHING to make sure it’s done on time and how I want it when sometimes I should let some things be taken care of by the great team I have!

What elements of being a rapper bring you the most stress?

Being an artist, I usually never get stressed because I can always find a way you have fun thru music. But on the business side of things, I tend to get frustrated when politics and gimmicks come into play. There are a ton of rappers with NO talent who are in better positions than some who are very talented. I feel like talent now of days is only 20% of what you need to have what it takes. This is pretty sad.

How do you want your music to affect people? And why would you want them to be affected this way?

I want my music to paint a picture for people and for people to be able to see what I’m rapping in their minds. I want my music to touch your soul and take you to another place. I also want people e to hear originality in my material because with all these qualities your music can never become old. It’s timeless!

What made you more interested in music, than sports?

Actually sports were my first love up until about the 11th grade when I started making music and got the good response when I put out my first mixtape. From that point on I knew it was the start of something different and BIG.

Did you come from a musical background? Was anyone in your family in the music industry?

No one in my family was in the music industry but I was always around music as a kid because my mom and dad played all the old jams at their get together when I was a kid. It kind of stuck with me.

What does it take to become a business owner, producer, songwriter, and rapper?

Anybody can become a business owner but to become a SUCCESSFUL business owner it takes Ambition, Heart, Grind, Talent, and a Plan!

As a musician, how would you define success?

I would define success as reaching your goal you set out to reach at the beginning! If you reach your long term and short term goals you are a success!

How did you get your record label started, for aspiring rappers that want to know?

I built a fan base watched people who had successful labels studied them and now I am following the blueprint that best fits me and my situation!

What do you think about sharing music online? And do you ever give your music away for free?

Sharing music online takes away from artist being able to make money off music but it builds a good fan base. I do free mixtapes because I know you have to give out so much to get them to buy these days.

Is there anything you would like to share about your upcoming album “Lift off”? Are there any other rappers on the album?

Liftoff will be a GREAT piece of art. Make sure you get it in December.
