1.) Who is T-Wayne? Place of birth? Likes? Dislikes? Pet Peeves?
-I’m from Abilene, Texas. I love music obviously. I used to play football in high school, but I quit to do music. I don’t do anything with my life except record songs and shoot videos and put them on YouTube and get on Instagram and promote myself.
2.) When did this love for music take place?
-When I was young my day got these DVD’s of people rapping so I would write the raps. When the 8 Mile movie came out with Eminem that’s when I just started his footsteps and doing freestyles. Everybody was saying I was good at it. I was always winning and after that I started getting fans and people started following me. It started getting crazy. I made a song when I was 14 or 15 and I had blew up. So after that I knew.
3.) Who were/are some of your musical influences?
-Eminem. Future. Everybody from Texas like Mike Jones. Bun B. UGK. DJ Screw. Drake.
4.)Your childhood was pretty busy. You sold mixtape CD’s to your classmates as well as holding three jobs. Tell me. How did you make time to pursue your own musical career?
-When I had three jobs that was the hardest thing I could ever do. Going to work and coming home to record after working all day. I would work one job half the day and then the other job the other half of the day. I would get home at like 10 or 11 and would record. Really I ain’t gone lie, I was working for a little bit and I just got tired of working all those jobs so I just quit. I knew I was never gone work again. I told everybody at my job “I’m done. This is my last week. I’m moving.” And I left and I moved to Houston and I just started doing music and I never got a job since.
5.)It’s safe to say you started out on YouTube releasing one video a week. Is this how you inked the deal with 300 entertainment?
-Somewhat. My song had just blew up so big. It was getting everybody’s attention and they hit me up saying some pretty interested stuff and I liked it. So we came together and made it work that way. It came together perfectly.
6.)Let’s talk about the Nasty Freestyle and the inspiration behind that?
-“Nasty Freestyle” came about- I needed some beats and I wanted to do a mixtape with one of my homeboys that’s a DJ so I decided to download a beat and freestyle. That freestyle I just came with something way different from what I normally do. I used to hate saying cuss words on songs and talking bad on songs. I was just really fed up with everything and everybody. I was tired of people not taking me serious. Like you’ll hear me in a song talking about this. So I came out with the freestyle with everything that was on my mind and talked the most shit that I could talk and then it blew up.
7.)Let’s talk about your second mixtape Who is Rickey Wayne? What’s the concept behind that and your favorite track?
-I came up with the name Who is Rickey Wayne because I changed my name. Well my name still is T-Wayne, but I changed it to Rickey Wayne and cut T-Wayne off cause of the name Lil Wayne. I was tired of people getting confused. I was searching myself and they (other rappers) stuff would come up. None of my stuff would come up at all. I’ve been having the name T-Wayne since I was a kid. That was my childhood name. So I decided to change my name to Rickey Wayne. The people that already knew me as T-Wayne, didn’t know me as Rickey Wayne so everyone would say “Who is Rickey Wayne?” so I came up with the mixtape that way. Everyone wants to ask who Rickey Wayne is so I’m gone show them.
My favorite song is “I Be Killin It” which is my next single.
8.)In one word, how would you describe your style?
-My style is energetic, fun, and different.
9.)What’s next for T-Wayne? Any touring plans?
-We have a lot of shows coming up. My new single “I Be Killin It” is out. It is the best song in the world. It’s a turn-up song.
