Just a few weeks prior to hip hop sensation XXXTentacion’s death, he had reportedly signed a $10 million dollar deal with Empire, the first label of any kind to take a chance on him (being the label his debut album “17” was released under). The founder of Empire, Ghazi Shami, said X had finished “a significant amount of material” for his next project. This posthumous album won’t see release until at least October though, as a clause in his deal with UMG will not allow it to release yet.
The deal came shortly after X had seen a significant dip in streaming numbers due to Spotify’s hateful conduct policy. While on the phone with Shami, X asked “Are you sure you want to sign me, even when my streams are down?”, to which Shami replied “I believe in you. I don’t believe in playlists”. There are no further details on when X’s upcoming posthumous album will be released, but when any updates are available, they will be here on TRUE Magazine.
