Executive Decision: Damon Dash

Damon Dash is a Hip Hop entrepreneur and music producer. He was born in New York City and often took low paying jobs to buy himself things and get by as a teenager. His mother died of an asthma attack when he was 15, which only made him work harder.

In 1999, Damon started off as Jay-Z’s manager and business partner. Him and Jay-Z founded Roc-A-Fella Records along with Kareem Burke. One of Damon’s many successes was when he organized a tour for Jay-Z that earned them over $19 million. When Roc-A-Fella Records was purchased by Def Jam, Jay-Z agreed to become president and their relationship took a hit. It was during this time that Damon introduced Kanye West to the world.

In 2005, Jay-Z also bought Dash out of his stake in “Rocawear”, which was a clothing line that both of them had created. A few years ago, it was reported that Damon is involved with Blind Debit, an application that uses fingerprints as a payment method.

Many aren’t aware that Damon also dated R&B singer Aaliyah in 1999 up until her death in 2001. He stated in an interview that he had plans to marry her.
