The Barbz will have to wait a little more longer for Nicki Minaj’s new studio LP, Queen. On Wednesday (Aug. 1), the Young Money rapper took to Twitter asking fans should the album be delayed due to sample clearance of one important record that Nicki says “features 1 of the greatest rappers of all time.” Minaj’s team has had trouble getting in contact with Tracy Chapman, the hitmaking blues/soul artist who Nicki sampled on the song. After deleting the original tweet, the Queens MC decided to post a poll for fans to vote.
Now, it appears the album is indeed pushed back one week. Instead of dropping on Aug. 10, Queen will arrive one-week later on Aug. 17. Minaj will share the release date with her bestie and frequent collaborator Ariana Grande, whose Sweetner album drops the same day. In an editor’s note on the Minaj-curated Nicki Minaj Takeover Apple Music playlist, it confirms the new release date.
Since I may have asked it wrong. 🤭🦄 vote. You guys can only imagine how much this means to me. It’s such a perfect body of work 🎈love you. Long time.
