With artists such as Kendrick Lamar, The Game, and DJ Quik all hailing from Compton, 20-year-old Streeb is sure to mark his territory in the list of the greatest rappers from the city just south of Los Angeles. Streeb caught our attention with his single “Like Me” and his heartfelt farewell to his best friend Sydney Dorsey with single “Letter To Syd.” Now, the up and coming rapper is prepping for the release of his debut project The Open Letter. Check out the interview below and be on the lookout for his music appearing in Images Of The Colored Eye, an upcoming short film from Serita Productions.
-Tell me about your upcoming project “The Open Letter.”
The Open Letter is my first solo project. Everything was done in house with my boys AyeG and Tyrell. We also have some dope visuals coming with the help of my big bro Thiiird. The tape itself is very different from what we are currently use to, it’s filled with different gems and truths that we all need to hear right now. With all the lies we are fed daily it’s gonna be good to take a break for something authentic.
-How personal is this project for you?
Each song on this tape I wrote with someone or something in mind so I guess we could say it’s pretty personal, but each song has an overall message that can be felt by any and everyone.
-How long have you been working on this project? Is this something that you’ve been working on for some time now or was it something recently written?
Once I dropped Letter to Syd the whole “Open Letter” concept was in mind, so over time T kept blessing me with beats and I was able to piece the puzzle from there.
-Any visuals we can look forward to?
Yes! I’m not gonna say too much but just know… WE UP TO SOMETHING! *Dj Khaled voice
-What other projects do you have coming up this summer/year?
We are ending the year pretty strong after this drops. “Like Me” just got picked up for a short film! So that’s gonna be pretty dope to see. My boy Sqooby and I are working on a few things right now, and be on the look out for his solo project as well “Until Death Do Us Part”. I’m working on a few tracks with AyeG for his tape “Artistically &Musically Gifted Vol 2”. I got some other tricks up my sleeve so all I can say is DON’T SLEEP. Also be on the look out or for some Merch coming soon.
