Season 2 of Sisterhood of Hip-Hop Airs Tomorrow June 9th

“Sisterhood of Hip-Hop” chronicles the lives of five of the most dope female hip-hop artists of our time. Diamond, Bia, Nyemiah Supreme, Siya, and Brianna Perry are five hip-hop assassins with distinct personalities all vying for their rightful places in the rap game. Each woman has proved their worthiness by producing incomparable hits that have your speakers boomin’ and the clubs poppin’.
Last season on “Sisterhood of Hip-Hop” we had the opportunity to get to know the ladies a little better. So intrigued, I had to know more! True Magazine had the pleasure to chat with the ladies. But don’t get too hyped yet. I can’t reveal everything. Be on the lookout for our interview with them in next month’s issue. But don’t worry! I won’t let you down just yet. I’ve taken a little from our interview to bless you guys with just a snippet of what to expect from the ladies this season.
Let’s chat a bit about Diamond. We were reintroduced to the Atlanta native whom was part of the 2004 rap group Crime Mob. Last season, Diamond was working hard making her lyrical comeback in the rap game. She departed from her family (just for a little bit) to get work done in the big apple, also known as New York. During the first season, we see the 27 year old work tirelessly on her music while a popular romance was the stir of hot topic. According to Diamond “Season 2, I’m more open. I’m more vulnerable. I was guarded season one because you know growing up as a childhood star and being judged and criticized so much I felt like Brittany was the only person I had regardless of what they thought about Diamond. I still had Brittany and wasn’t judged, but after seeing season one and the response of the street and the kids, and seeing how some things to me could be the worst day of my life and I overcame, they (fans) saw that and that is what helped me keep going. They saw that. I was doing this for not only just me, but my fans.” The rapper also reveals a new love interest which I won’t disclose too much on. You’ll just have to see for yourself.
Now, let’s get into Siya. Season one we are introduced to the Bed-Stuy native who is signed to R&B singer Tank. She is a heavy hitting lyricist who can “keep up” with the big dudes. Siya was very open season one about her life including her relationship with then girlfriend Renaye and her sexuality. One thing that stood out the most was her drive and determination and unwillingness to conform to the industry’s idea of what a female rapper should look like. Not only that, but her ability to stay neutral in all situations. When involved in arguments with her girlfriend or when minor disagreements happened between cast-mates, Siya always kept her cool. “I just try to let the girls know, were all here to achieve our goals. We all have the same outlook on everything. Instead of fighting each other, we should be fighting these dudes over records to take their spot. A lot of the girls come to me for advice and respect my opinion. At the end of the day, we all love each other. We all respect each other.” Expect to see a lot more of this cool chick in season 2.
Boston native Bia might be a new face to the scene, but she’s ready to add a new element to the rap game. Season one, we learn the young emcee has been working with the one and only, Pharrell. Bia was also very open about her life as we see the rapper put on her big sister hat as she was in the midst of signing to a record label. Family is just as important to her as her career and is using this as a platform to provide for her family. We haven’t really heard of many (rap) artists coming from Boston. In all honestly, this is my first. Bia is definitely putting Boston on the map. In our interview she opens up about her hometown and its music scene. “It’s not as supportive here in a sense, in a major scale. Labels aren’t checking for people in Boston. When I started rapping 2008-2010. Now, it’s different. We have so many people coming up. People are checking for Boston more.” The artist is very appreciative of her blessings and successes and of the people around her who helped her make it all possible.
Nyemiah Supreme and the stage go together like peanut butter and jelly. She’s been entertaining since a teenager and after high school, joined R&B singer Chris Brown serving as a backup dancer on his tour. “I’ve been dancing before I been rapping. My love for rap probably comes from being a dancer and the way that I feel the beat and dance to other people’s lyrics. I kind of embody it. I have a different love for them. I wouldn’t say that one is stronger than the other. I don’t mind doing both for the rest of my life.” Nyemah is a triple threat who will definitely wow the stage with her versus and dance moves. She recently shot a music video to “What It Taste Like” (all pun intended) and has quite a bit to say about this raunchy track. But you’re just going to have to wait until the issue comes out to hear more about this sexy song and video. On the first season, she was open about her guardedness and speaking to the press. This season expect a different Nyemiah Supreme. One with more music and even greater story to tell.
Last, but certainly not least, we have Brianna Perry who has been in the music gang as long as she’s been in diapers. She was the youngest artist to be signed to Missy Elliott’s label. As a child, at the age of seven, she was already recording in the studio. You know when people say they eat, breathe, and sleep music? Well Brianna is definitely the epitome of that phrase. Not only does she love her music career to the extreme, but also values what’s most important, her education. First season we see Brianna battle her education and career and successfully accomplish both. She graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in business and will use her tools to brand herself in the rap game. “It was extremely important to me. That’s been my dream university ever since I was eight years old. It was always on my goal list and just to be able to go there and accomplish that, it was more a statement in my own life. Whatever you want to do, whatever it is as long as you put your mind to it and you put in the work it can happen. I needed to do that for myself and gain knowledge and help me to boss up. When I’m handling my own business I felt like it was important for me to go there and get those tools.” Brianna is definitely someone all women should look up to. She is the prime example of setting goals for yourself and achieving them no matter the obstacle.
Now that we’ve gotten to know these five dope rappers representing ladies everywhere, will you be watching season two? Last year, after the first season ended I was like “Okay. When is season two going to air?” I am so ready to see what these ladies have been up to. This show is opening doors for all upcoming female lyricists out there. Each lady has their own distinct personality that sets them apart from not only each other but entertainers everywhere. They are setting the bar extremely high and have proven that they can keep up in this male dominated industry. Don’t believe me? See for yourself
Watch Sisterhood of Hip-Hop tomorrow, Tuesday June 9th 9/8C on Oxygen AND be on the lookout for my interview with the ladies in next month’s issue. See what they had to say about the show, relationships, sexuality, and much more.
