Music has made its way back to television courtesy of AXS TV’s new show SKEE Live. The brainchild and vision of DJ Skee, the hour long live show is composed of taped segments, interviews, guest performances and broadcasted from L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
Always at the forefront of popular culture, DJ Skee proves he can transition the success of his Skee.TV online network to the small-screen after inking a deal with AXS TV co-founder/chairman Mark Cuban for 12 episodes. The ambitious businessman and hardworking entertainer, expands on his list of accomplishments by taking the initiative to fill the void MTV left behind after abandoning its music driven format in favor of reality television.
However, make no mistake, DJ Skee has set out to raise the bar in his pursuit of collectively gathering the attention of viewers at home for an hour every Tuesday evening. With appealing original segments that feature popular tastemakers, athletes and relevant artists, Skee is just about calling in every favor and pulling out all the stops to deliver memorable programming free of censorship or genre bias. With three episodes in the vault, fans have already been treated to candid interviews from some of Hip Hop’s biggest names like Action Bronson, Travis $cott, Tyga and Kendrick Lamar. Even more impressive is SKEE Live‘s “Off The Top” segment which showcases an exclusive and original music video from a different artist every week.
As the internet continues to boil over and constantly bombard users daily with music from signed and aspiring artists, videos, news and more, it’s easy to understand how a person’s browser can get overwhelmed at times and worthy talent can go unseen. Equipped with a higher production budget and a selective talent filter, SKEE Live sets out to create and reintroduce a unique experience that viewers can only see unfold live on AXS TV. In fact, only a limited number of reruns are set to air following each episode. Exclusive segments and guest performances work in favor of television as they remain unavailable for online audiences to watch at a later time. Always the innovator, DJ Skee also includes a “Twitter Round” which encourages viewers to take to their accounts and tweet random questions for in-studio guests to answer live on camera.
Armed with a universal appeal and a YouTube following which boasts a notable 300 million views, DJ Skee looks to mold SKEE Live into a respected platform that musicians can use to promote their work and reach a broader audience by infiltrating flat screens everywhere. At the same time, the charismatic and clean-cut entertainment figure continues to build his multimedia empire and venture into new territory not seen since MTV’s Total Request Live. Fans are also encouraged to take part in filming by receiving free tickets to see featured guest performers take the stage at The Conga Room located adjacent to the AXS TV studio.
Needless to say, SKEE Live is in a lane of its own and on the brink of something special as it plays to its biggest strengths, its individuality and lack of competition. After years of playing the background on less popular and strictly video dedicated channels, the resurgence of a credible music show on television is not only refreshing, but should be commended and embraced. SKEE Livelooks to rewrite some rules and showcase music on a larger stage by implementing new standards outside of the Internet which has become congested and perhaps cliché.
