TRUE Top Female Earners – Kehlani

Before signing to Atlantic Records, Kehlani had many ups and downs. From being homeless to making millions, she gained fame as a teenager in the pop group Poplyfe. She also appeared on America’s Got Talent with the same group and received support from Nick Cannon who was the host of the show. Kehlani began releasing mixtapes on her own, Cloud 19 in 2014 and You Should Be Here in 2015. You Should Be Here went straight to #5 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts And in 2016, she was nominated for the best Urban Contemporary Album Grammy Award. The future started to look bright for Kehlani.

Promotions began for Kehlani’s debut studio album SweetSexySavage in 2016 with the initial release on January 27th, 2017. The album debuted at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 with 58,000 units sold in the first week. She is currently on her SweetSexySavage Tour, which is selling relatively well. It is estimated that nearly $1 million will be made from VIP Packages alone.

Forbes Magazine listed Kehlani in their 30 Under 30 (2016) column, which represents “the brightest young entrepreneurs, leaders and stars.” In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times Kehlani talked about her new-found fortune and how she handles success stating, “When I started making music it was as a form of therapy and release. Then you start making a little money off of it and it becomes a career. The hardest thing for me was understanding that at some point I have to keep making money and start compromising to do radio and opening up more and doing bigger interviews.” Kehlani is doing quite well for herself these days and it’s only just the beginning.
