Cardi B Becomes First Dominican Artist To Reach #1

All summer street corners in The Bronx have blasted Cardi B’s single ‘Bodak Yellow’ and some eagerly dubbed it the Song of the Summer. It’s obviously a banger, from the first time we all heard it.

It debuted at number #85 on Billboard Hot 100 back in July, and steadily climbed as her career blossomed through her collaborations with other artists, her relationship with Migos’ Offset, and her hilarious Instagram account. She dropped a Spanish version of it which seemed to some online to be corny but was lowkey just as hot.

As of this week, ‘Bodak Yellow’ made two significant achievements. After fighting her way to #2, following Taylor Swift’s new single debuting at the top spot, Cardi reached number #1, making her the first Dominican artist to ever top the chart. This is substantial. Not only that, the track is also the first solo female rap single to hold this honor since Lauryn Hill’s ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ in 1998.

Congratulations Cardi. Watch her reaction to the news below.
