Watch Producer Cardo Sample Some Random Classics On “Rhythm Roulette”

Don’t sleep on Cardo. Over the past eight years the Texas-based producer has become a force to be reckoned with, first making his mark on tracks for Mac Miller, Chevy Woods, and Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Kush & Orange Juice.’ After establishing himself with Taylor Gang he expanded his portfolio by crafting heaters for the likes of Curren$y, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Jeezy, and Jay Z.

Late last year Cardo and Detroit rapper Payroll Giovanni of Doughboyz Cashout announced a partnership with Def Jam. For the latest episode of MASS APPEAL’s Rhythm Roulette, Cardo stopped by A-1 Records in NYC to snatch up three records at random. After tying a star-spangled bandana over his eyes, he picked up albums by Graham Central Station, Con Funk Shun, and a disco joint by France Joli—then headed back to the studio.

While he was blowing dust off these vintage vinyls his phone rang to tell him that a record he co-produced—“God’s Plan” by Drake—was going to be #1 on the Billboard charts. Nevertheless he stayed focused on the task at hand, having fun while he listened to tracks until he found something that made him exclaim “That shit hard!” After chopping and reversing the sample Cardo came up with a track that “got wings.” Watch the action unfold right now on Rhythm Roulette.
